Paducah, KY dental offices can finance chairs and delivery units, CBCT or panoramic imaging, and a chairside crown mill with equipment loans or leases, because each unit can secure its own agreement. A term loan or a line of credit covers what the equipment cannot secure, such as installation, training and service plans. This article prices each piece with worked examples.
Dental chairs, imaging units and chairside mills can each be financed as equipment, with the unit as collateral. Longer terms lower the payment and raise total interest. Service contracts, training and installation belong in the same request but are priced on their own lines.
Chairs and delivery units
An operatory package is a chair, a delivery unit, an operatory light, doctor and assistant stools, and a monitor arm if the quote includes one; the quote lists each piece. Because the package bolts to the floor and plumbs into the room, the quote can also carry installation. A funding partner can place the whole package on one equipment financing agreement, secured by the units.
Illustration only, invented figures: a Paducah, KY practice adds 2 operatories at $36,500 each. Financed together over 72 months at 9.25% a year, the $73,000 package costs $1,324.94 a month in this example, with $22,395.68 of interest over the term in this example.
For context on office size: the 40 offices of dentists in McCracken County, KY reported 318 paid employees between them for 2023 (CBP, NAICS 6212). That averages 8.0 people per office, our arithmetic, so a second hygiene chair can change the schedule for a small staff. Separately, ZIP Code Business Patterns counts 27 dental offices with employees at ZIP 42001 addresses.
CBCT and panoramic imaging
Cone-beam CT and panoramic units are big-ticket purchases for a general practice. The unit, its sensor, the viewing software and the computer that runs it can all sit on one equipment agreement. Room preparation inside a leased suite, such as shielding and electrical work, is building work outside this site, like work on the building shell; a term loan can carry other single purchases for the practice.
Illustration only, invented figures: a $118,000 CBCT unit at 8.95% a year costs $2,446.62 a month over 60 months in this example, against $1,895.52 over 84 months. In this example, stretching to seven years trims $551.10 from each installment but costs $12,426.48 more in interest.
The right length depends on how long the office expects to use the unit before replacing it. A term that outlasts the equipment leaves the practice paying for a scanner it has already retired.
Chairside crown mills
A chairside system pairs an intraoral scanner with a mill and, for some materials, a sintering furnace. It lets the office design and seat a crown at one visit instead of sending an impression to an outside lab. The case for one rests on the office’s own crown volume and lab bills, so pull a year of lab invoices before pricing it.
Illustration only, invented figures: a $132,000 scanner, mill and furnace at 9.5% a year for 72 months has an installment of $2,412.26 in this example. In this example the office seats 16 crowns a month, pays an outside lab $190 per crown today, and expects $45 of milling blocks per crown in house.
In this example the lab bill avoided, less blocks, is $2,320 a month, about 96% of the installment. In this example the rest has to come from added chair time or from more crowns, so the office’s own numbers decide whether the mill makes sense.
Service contracts in the loan file
Imaging units and mills come with a manufacturer coverage period, and after it ends the office pays for a service plan, software updates and replacement parts. Those costs are real but are not equipment a partner can hold as collateral. Ask the vendor to price the service plan on its own line, so the funding request shows what is equipment and what is service.
Illustration only, invented figures: a CBCT service plan of $7,800 a year in this example works out to $650 a month in this example. A business line of credit can cover an annual service bill and be paid down over the next months, so the plan does not stretch across the full equipment term.
- The equipment quote with each unit, its price and its installation line
- Any service plan priced separately, with the years it covers
- Software and data subscriptions, with their annual cost
- Payments still running on older equipment the new units replace
- A year of collections by month from the practice software
